Welcome to Kate and Vern's wild ride!

This website chronicals the life and times of Kate and Vern. When we join the dynamic duo, they have already been together for almost two years and are living in sin in a little house on the Moran Prairie with their fur baby Luna. Vern is a fire chief at the local fire department and Kate is pursuing her Master's degree in something she calls "planning," but everyone thinks it's just an excuse to stay in school longer. Check back daily for the continuing adventures of Kate and Vern.

Chapter 1: The Living Room at Night Time.

Their friends laugh at them. The ones who really know them anyway. It is a typical evening in the home of Kate and Vern. Vern is comfortably slouched in his brown leather recliner stairing into the luminescent screen of his laptop. Kate is seated on the haggard love seat with her bare feet pressed into the gray carpet, her eyes fixed on her own laptop screen. She glances up occasionally to see what's on the television that she muted some time ago. It was distracting her from the internet checkers game she was playing against some guy in Turkey. She won.

Luna is licking himself after a tasty dinner of organic dry catfood with hunks of free-range chicken, organic beef and shade grown peas. He doesn't really like it all that much but like so many things in his life, he has very little choice in the matter. But, he has found that if he walks around on Kate and Vern's faces in the morning, purring and licking their fingers, one of them is likely to groggely stumble into the kitchen and open a can of ocean whitefish Fancy Feast.

Vern is generally the easiest to crack. Kate sleeps like the dead until the sixth time the alarm goes off -- 7:00 am. By then, Vern is usually up ironing the day's work shirt or playing on his computer.

Kate and Vern plod through their respective days. Vern works at the fire station in Valleyford as a deputy fire chief. His job is basically do to all the things that no one else wants to do. It's very demanding and never boring. In his spare time he works on the computer and is trying to learn Portugese. His father is a mellurgist and a coffee farmer in Brazil. His mother runs a day time home for wayward children and reads romance novels.

When Kate's not in school she's at her second home away from home, a private planning firm in the heart of downtown Spokane. While there she learns the right way to update a comprehensive plan, design visually appealing ArcGIS maps, and create stunning SEPA checklists. Otherwise, she's in school going for her MURP which is very difficult, time consuming and, as you may have guessed, smelly.

Both Kate and Vern are exhausted by the day's end and, if one wishes to find them, they can be found in the condition described above, the muted television flickering in the background.
